39 minutes, digital video, available on Beta SP, mini-dv or VHS
Co-produced with Dragon Dance Theatre

Sun and Moon Were Children And Walked On The Earth is a 39 minute experimental film made collaboratively with Dragon Dance Theatre, a theatre and puppet company run by Sam Kerson in Vermont, Canada and Mexico.

This film is the culmination of a three year process, which began when Nora Jacobson was invited to Mexico to a theatre workshop run by Dragon Dance and Comparsa, a Oaxaca based theater company. For three weeks participants built masks and puppets in the town square, learned ritual dances and stilting, and explored the many variations of the story of Sun and Moon. Two site specific performances took place, one in a Zapotec village outside of Oaxaca and one in a beautiful public park in the city.

After the workshop, Nora and Sam decided to continue exploring the myth, in a fictional film form. They decided to start the process by making a short film in a workshop setting. The next year, a group of artists from Argentina, Chile, Canada, Mexico and Spain and The USA came to Worcester, Vermont to make the film.

The goal is to develop the short film into a feature length narrative. Meanwhile, Sam Kerson continues running theater and puppet workshops in Vermont, Canada and Mexico.
